Color history…
(after the text, two photo slideshow)
The stuccos made on the creations are colored by using mineral pigments, most of them come from trade; Wanting to develop a range of “homemade” colors, I drew inspiration from the techniques of plant dyeing to extract numerous plant pigments to create beautiful colored stuccos.
I selected plants that contain light-stable pigments. I collected leaves, flowers, and bark from species in the Alentejo region (Mediterranean climate), such as mastic tree, Canada goldenrod, brambles, eucalyptus, and more.
Different technical steps allow me to obtain numerous pigment lacquers, which are pigments fixed on a mineral support.
I also conducted experiments with the lichen Usnea barbata and the fungus Pisolithus.
I continue to research the extraction of colors such as blue and red, as well as crushed slate stones that yield, for example, purple. I would like to remind you that I can create works that you like with customized colors. For that, please contact me…
Below are two photo slideshows. The first shows some steps for obtaining the pigment lacquer from bramble leaves and eucalyptus bark. The second presents samples of lime stucco colored with the pigment lacquers from my collection.
